Finding balance again: a TCM approach to healing from burnout

Updated: Jun 26

Since opening my practice, I’ve had the privilege of supporting people who come in not because of one big crisis—but because life, over time, has quietly pushed them past their limits.

They often describe feeling tired in a way that rest doesn’t touch. Tense, scattered, emotionally overwhelmed, or just not quite themselves.

If this feels familiar, I want you to know: you're not alone. What you’re feeling has roots, and from a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, there’s a clear and compassionate path forward.

Burnout is a signal—not a personal failing

In TCM, health is seen as a living balance—between rest and activity, giving and receiving, stillness and motion. When this balance is disrupted over time—through chronic stress, overwork, emotional strain, or lack of recovery—our systems begin to show signs of imbalance.

These signs may be subtle or loud. They might include:

  • Constant fatigue

  • Restless sleep or insomnia

  • Irritability or emotional ups and downs

  • Digestive issues or appetite changes

  • Anxiety, foggy thinking, or a general sense of disconnection

Rather than viewing these symptoms as something to push through, I see them as your body’s way of asking for care and recalibration. It’s not failure—it’s feedback.

How TCM understands burnout

Every person’s experience with burnout is different, but I often see certain patterns emerge in the clinic. These include:

  • Kidney Deficiency - In TCM, the Kidneys store your vital energy (Jing). When depleted, you might feel deeply tired, unmotivated, or more anxious than usual.

  • Liver Qi Stagnation - The Liver is responsible for the smooth flow of energy and emotions. When its energy is stuck, it can show up as irritability, tension, frustration, or emotional reactivity.

  • Spleen Qi Deficiency - The Spleen supports digestion and mental clarity. When weakened, it may lead to fatigue, bloating, overthinking, or foggy thinking.

  • Heart Shen Disturbance - The Heart houses your Shen—the spirit or mind. When imbalanced, it can affect sleep, emotional well-being, and your ability to feel present or joyful.

When I sit with you, I’m not just looking at symptoms. I’m listening to the story your body is telling—because that’s where true healing begins.

How I support you in healing

My approach is rooted in the understanding that your body already knows how to heal—it may just need the right support and space to begin. When we work together, I offer care that’s both clinical and deeply human.

Depending on your needs, our work may include:

  • Acupuncture - to soothe the nervous system, release tension, and restore energetic flow

  • Herbal patent formulas - to nourish depleted systems, calm the mind, and strengthen resilience

  • Lifestyle & nutrition Guidance - gentle, realistic suggestions to support you between treatments

  • A grounded, compassionate space - where you can feel seen, heard, and supported at your own pace

This isn’t about changing who you are—it’s about helping you reconnect with your natural rhythm, restore your energy, and feel like yourself again.

You deserve to feel well

Burnout may be part of your story, but it doesn’t have to be the whole story. Healing doesn’t happen overnight—but with patience, care, and the right support, your body and mind can return to a place of clarity, steadiness, and strength.

If you’re feeling the pull toward rest, renewal, and reconnection, I’d be honored to support you.
