Acupuncture is a time-tested therapy rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine that helps restore balance, promote healing, and support overall wellness. If you're new to acupuncture, you may wonder what happens during a session, how it works, and how to prepare. Here’s a quick guide to help you feel at ease and get the most out of your experience.
How acupuncture works
Acupuncture involves inserting thin needles at specific points on the body to stimulate the flow of Qi.
This helps balance energy, reduce pain, and improve overall health. The goal is to restore harmony in the body, addressing both physical symptoms and underlying imbalances.
What to expect during a session
Consultation: The first part of your session is a brief consultation where we will discuss your health history, current concerns, and lifestyle. This helps me understand your unique needs and create a treatment plan tailored to you.
Needle insertion: I will insert fine needles into specific points based on your condition. You might feel a slight tingling or pressure, but it’s typically not painful. Most people find the process very relaxing.
Relaxation: After the needles are in, you’ll rest for about 30 minutes while the acupuncture takes effect. This is your time to relax and allow the treatment to work.
Needle removal: Once the session is complete, I’ll remove the needles. Many people feel a sense of relaxation or renewed energy afterward.
Preparing for your session
Eat a light meal: It’s best to have a light meal an hour or two before your session.
Avoid caffeine and alcohol: These can interfere with your body’s ability to relax and absorb the treatment.
Wear comfortable clothing: Loose clothing helps with easy access to the areas we’ll be treating.
After the Session
Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to support your body’s natural detox process.
Rest: Try to avoid strenuous exercise after your session.
Observe your body: You might feel relaxed, energized, or even a little tired after the session—these are normal responses.
Lifestyle changes for long-term balance
While acupuncture helps restore balance, long-term wellness often involves lifestyle changes. I may suggest adjustments to your diet, sleep routine, or stress management to keep your body in harmony and support your healing.
